As an exhibitor of models, a Railway Modeller, builder of locomotives, installer of DCC and repairer of the problems of others I’ve come to value very few tools as much as I do the Bachrus Rolling Road.

This super product adds a dimension to the creation and tuning of model railway locomotives that makes it possible to do something things we have NEVER been able to do before: The Bachrus Rolling Road Series is worth its weight in gold to the serious modeller.

For the BUILDER of loco’s: The robust yet almost totally frictionless bearings allow the loco to sit steadily whilst it runs, and the low friction means that every aspect of the rotation of wheel and valve gear can be observed operating without ANY outside influence – from almost dead stop through operating speed. This lets us find the odd “bind” or irregular action that prevents perfect running… Something that has always been as much guesswork as skill in the past.

For the Running in or Repair of loco’s: The fact that the incredibly well engineered “Saddles” sit firmly on the track and are electrically powered just by sitting them on a short track section lets us test run or run-in a new or recently re-worked loco on the bench where it is most convenient

The low friction of the super smooth ball bearing rollers means we can let it run for as long as it needs to “bed in” new gears, valve gear or axle bearings without needing to keep a constant eye on it, as we always have to do when its running on a layout!

For the Modeller installing DCC: You can sit newly DCC-equipped loco’s on the track right at the bench while we run the decoder through its paces. We can even place the Bachrus Saddles on the Programming Track to adjust key parameters, VERY helpful as we fine tune start speeds and speed curves to match other loco’s.

For those of us using sound it’s a double benefit – having the wheels sitting steadily in front of us as they rotate, we can tune the relationship of “chuff” to wheel revolutions perfectly, as well as testing each sound function and adjusting levels as needed for a perfect sound performance.

2-Rail, 3 Rail, electric, live steam or anything on wheels: It doesn’t matter what you model or how your models pick up power – we even have a couple of live stam modellers in both 7 and 4mm scale using Bachrus as a “rolling road” to hold their live steam loco’s as they teach themselves to drive them properly!

The BACHRUS Rolling Road is a MUST HAVE tool for every serious modeller! Click on the link to be taken to the Rolling Roads that best suit YOUR scale & gauge needs: Don’t forget the Stirrups though – these keep other wheels where they should be while Drivers rotate on the Saddles!

Bachrus Rolling Roads are perhaps the best quality product of their type ever produced.

The BACHRUS “SADDLE”

Bachrus may call the active part of the product “Saddles” because that’s where the loco sits, but by any standards, they are a sophisticated, high quality test and running in tool! Built around a series of carefully designed Aluminium extrusions, their super low resistance and high quality performance are due to the use of high quality stainless steel shielded ball bearing races which offer great stability and extremely low “In use” rolling resistance. This is the ONLY way possible to truly test and fine tune a locomotive chassis – especially if it has an active chassis or is compensated or sprung!

Bachrus rolling roads are both gauge adjustable and flexible in configuration: and because of this are able, for the first time ever, to offer products suitable for ALL scales, all modelling styles and all possible gauges from “Z” to “O”.

All styles of electrical pickup and operation are covered too: Bachrus Rolling Roads can be used with AC, DC, DCC in both 2 and 3 rail configurations.

The BACHRUS “STIRRUP”

There is more to a “Rolling Road” than supporting Driving wheels – what about the non-driven wheels of a diesel, or the pony trucks and tender of a Steam Locomotive? Bachrus have these covered too – with their extensive range of Stirrups in various sizes to support ANY possible combination of pony truck, bogie or any tender wheel configuration.

BACHRUS saddles and Stirrups combine to create a significant and VERY important “Universal tool” for the serious modeller. NO modeller who builds or services locomotives, or who values high quality performance from his or her locomotives can afford to be without this excellent product.

The Bachrus Ranges:
To make it easy, the range has been broken into FOUR primary sections, each of which covers a series of track gauges: Click on the series name to be taken to the product lists.

30 Series – This is an HO/OO Gauge/SN3-1/2” gauge “HI-VALUE” series Bachrus Rolling road featuring super slippery long life phosphor bronze rollers. Lower cost for the occasional user who primarily uses the rolling road for “running in” without compromising accuracy or long life

40 Series - 6 to 11mm gauge (0.236 to 0.433”) – covers Z, N, Ho-N3, Ho-N2-1/2 etc
50 Series - 11 to 23mm gauge (.0433 to 0.906”) – covers OO, HO, TT, On3, etc
60 Series - 23~45mm (0.906” to 1.766”) – covers O, 7mm scale, 7mm Finescale. Heavier construction and super precision long life sealed ball races to cope with heavy die-cast large scale loco’s.
